What is Public Liability Insurance?

As a courier, you spend your days on the move, delivering parcels, meeting deadlines, and navigating busy streets. But working around the public means accidents can happen.

Public Liability insurance protects you and your courier business if someone makes a claim against you for accidental injury or property damage while you're working. Whether a member of the public trips over a parcel you’re delivering, or their property is accidentally damaged, Public Liability insurance helps cover the cost of legal fees and compensation.

What does public liability insurance cover?

Public Liability insurance for couriers helps protect you if your work accidentally causes injury or damage to someone else. Below, we’ve outlined what’s typically covered and what’s not, so you know exactly where you stand.

What’s included?
  • Accidental injury to third parties - for example, if someone trips over a package or collides with your trolley while you're delivering.
  • Damage to property - such as scratching a customer's car or knocking over a shop display while collecting or delivering.
  • Legal costs and compensations - including defence costs if a claim is made against you.
  • Cover while working across UK and EU - if your work temporarily takes you abroad.
What’s not included?
  • The goods you're delivering - Public Liability Insurance doesn't cover loss, theft or damage to parcels, packages or other items in your care.
  • Injury to employees - you'll need Employers' Liability Insurance for this.
  • Damage to your own property or vehicle
  • Deliberate or criminal acts

We've made our policies as clear, easy to understand and as transparent as possible, you can download the documents here.

How much does Public Liability Insurance for Couriers cost?

  • Where you work
  • Your level of risk
  • The amount of cover you choose (we offer limits of £1 million, £2 million, or £5 million)

You can also customise your cover to suit the size and nature of your courier work, whether you're a solo delivery driver or managing a small courier business.
