What's the difference between Goods in Transit and Hire and Reward insurance

Almost every business should consider public liability insurance. Whether you’re a contractor working on third-party properties or a small business owner dealing with customers, it protects against unexpected claims.
Some key sectors that benefit from public liability insurance include:

  • Tradespeople
  • Freelancers
  • Consultants
  • Couriers

Hire and Reward insurance covers you to carry other people’s goods in exchange for payment. If you’re a courier, delivery driver, or transport goods as part of your job, this type of insurance is legally required. It protects you in case you’re involved in an accident while delivering goods for someone else, ensuring you’re covered to use your vehicle for business purposes.

Goods in Transit insurance, on the other hand, covers the actual items you’re transporting. It protects those goods against damage, loss or theft while they’re being moved from one place to another. So while Hire and Reward covers the act of transporting goods, Goods in Transit covers the items themselves—and having both gives you full protection on the road.
