The amount of Public Liability cover you need depends on the type of work you do, the risks involved and the kinds of clients or contracts you take on.

Many HVAC contractors choose £1 million, £2 million or £5 million in cover, which is often enough for domestic work or smaller commercial jobs. But if you work on larger sites, in public buildings or under contract with local authorities or main contractors, you may be asked to have higher limits in place.

That is why we also offer up to £10 million in Public Liability cover for those bigger, higher-risk projects.

Yes, as with any insurance, there are certain situations where a claim may not be covered. HVAC Insurance is designed to protect you when things go wrong, but it is important to understand the limits of your policy.

Here are a few examples of when a claim might be declined:

‍

• ‍Work not declared on your policy
  If you take on work that falls outside what you originally told us, such as working at unusual heights or in high-risk environments, your claim may not be covered.‍
• Damage to your own tools or equipment
  Public Liability Insurance covers claims made by third parties. To protect your own tools, parts or equipment, you will need Tools and Materials Insurance.‍
• Unsafe or illegal practices
  If injury or damage is caused by serious negligence or by breaking health and safety regulations, the claim may be rejected.‍
• No Employers’ Liability Insurance when required
  If you employ someone and do not have Employers’ Liability Insurance in place, you will not be covered for claims made by your employee.‍
• Intentional damage or dishonesty
  Claims will not be accepted if damage or injury was caused deliberately or if false information is provided.

Send over any supporting documents (photos, receipts, police report if it’s theft), and ideally let us know within 14 days. The sooner we know, the sooner we can help.

If you’re claiming for tools or materials, we’ll pay the original purchase price if they can’t be repaired - just make sure your cover limit reflects what your kit is worth.
